[Comap App review]GenZ map app

I downloaded this app called CoMaps
Thinking it would be some social app or a fun way to make maps with friends.
But it’s a real, serious map app, which is very cool( you can record altitude)
Why it Matters
You know how Google Maps or Apple Maps have all these limitations?
Like API rate limits, weird terms around data ownership, and tracking your every move?
Yeah, those platforms aren’t built for privacy or startups who want to build cool things on top.
CoMaps is different.
The first screen you see shows you the map
It offers features like 3D buildings and customizable measurement units
And the interesting part is, you can actually record altitude
see those 'ascent' and 'descent' stats?
After recording your measurements, you can tap 'Stop Track Recording' to finish
It was a bit hard for me to use since I'm not that kind of Gen Z, but I still recommend giving it a try
For When You’re Literally in the Middle of Nowhere
Imagine you’re on a yacht in the middle of the ocean.
Or hiking up a mountain where signal bars don’t exist.
CoMaps actually works offline. You download the map and boom — you’re never lost.
It’s perfect for situations where your phone says “no service” but you still need to find your way back to civilization.
No Creepy Tracking, Ever
Most apps collect your location even when you're not using them.
CoMaps doesn’t. It doesn’t want your data — it just wants you to get where you’re going.
Which is refreshing, to be honest.
But Let’s Talk About the Vibe
Okay, one thing: the UI feels a little serious.
Like... adult serious. The kind of app a well-organized travel blogger or your privacy-obsessed friend would use.
But that’s not a bad thing. If you’re someone who actually cares about privacy, tech freedom, or just having a reliable offline map — this one’s for you.
So if you're a Gen Z type who lowkey wants to help build open-source tools (but also get around without being tracked),
you should definitely give CoMaps a try.( Website)
